How do testimonials help your startup?

Testimonials are crucial to show the value of your startup.

You create trust by showing your customers' feedback on your landing page, making your website more credible. Testimonials are also a great way for the visitor to understand what pain you're solving and how you can help them.

What's a good testimonial?

The testimonial you want to collect needs to have a few characteristics:

It should be something your visitors can relate to, ideally, your visitors recognize themselves in the testimonial and understand how your startup solves its problem.

It should show some tangible results. We don't want vague statements like: "it's amazing". A good testimonial should be clear on the result: "I got x2 sales in 15 days thanks to xxxx".

It's even better if the testimonial comes from someone known in your target community (like a micro-influencer)

How to get testimonials

Getting testimonials or even feedback is always a challenge when you're just getting started.

Here are a few ways to get them:

  • Send an automated email a few days after signup (don't be afraid to follow up!)

  • Monitor social media like Twitter, Yelp, Facebook, LinkedIn

  • Create a Google Business page

  • Create a survey or a widget directly in your product

A good way to speed up the process is by offering incentives for your testimonial requests. It can be a discount or cash like an amazon gift card.

> Don't hesitate to send a template to your customers when asking for a testimonial, it's easier for them, and you can be more specific about what you ask!

How to use them on your website

Add social proof to every part of your website

  • In the header or below the CTA to reassure before a click, like here on birdy.so in the screenshot below

  • In your pricing page or below the pricing section to create more trust right before the payment. Check what remoteok.io is doing:

Create an easy-to-browse testimonials section

You should have on your landing page a section that gathers all the testimonials from your customers.

Make it beautiful and easy to browse. The more testimonials you add, the better. Even more, if you're just getting started. Show the world how great your solution is!

I personally use Testimonial.to on all my websites. It makes it super easy to get text and video testimonials and also import all the testimonials you got on social media.
